World Refugee Day 2021

As Refugee Week 2021 ends, and to mark UNHCR World Refugee Day, we echo the vision of the UK City of Sanctuary movement, and of Places of Sanctuary Ireland, in stating that our vision for Northern Ireland is of a welcoming place of safety for all, offering sanctuary to people fleeing violence and persecution, promoting a culture of welcome and inclusiveness right across every sphere and sector of society. We call upon the Governments, national and local, across these islands to embrace the aim of creating such a positive system of sanctuary in partnership with those individuals and organisations most closely involved. In particular, we urge the UK Government to re-think its recently published 'New Plan for Immigration'. Our full statement on this issue can be downloaded here.
